The Eucharist

Eucharist

What is Eucharist?

At the Last Supper, on the night before he died, Jesus had dinner with his friends. When he took the bread, he gave thanks, broke it and gave it to them saying “Take and eat; this is my body.” He did the same with a cup of wine saying “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood.” (see Matthew 26:26-28)

Whenever we celebrate the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper, we do it in memory of Jesus and his great sacrifice on the cross for the world. The Eucharist makes Christ present and unites us with each other and with God; it strengthens us for the journey of life.
