Ministry of Ushers

ministry of ushers

When the Church documents speak of the presence of Christ at Mass, they first and foremost mention that he is present when the assembly gathers to pray. In other words, as Jesus says, “Wherever two or three gather in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Just as Lectors and Ministers of Communion serve the presence of Christ in the Word and the Eucharist, the ushers serve the presence of Christ in the assembly. They do so by welcoming the people of God as they arrive at the church; they arrange for member of the assembly to bring forth the gifts of bread wine; they help the people with their sacrificial giving for the needs of the church by taking up the collection.

Notre Dame has many dedicated ushers who serve the assembly in these and other important ways. As we recover from the days of the pandemic, we find ourselves in need of additional ushers here at Notre Dame. Our new head usher, Jim Montesano, will be training new ones to assist at our Masses. Men, women and even families may assist in this ministry. God calls each of us to serve as ministers of the Church. If you are reading this, God may be speaking to you, inviting you to serve!
